After a short time and after having reached an agreement with Pedro Alvarado, Diego de Almagro arranges the transfer of Santiago to another place, from which two expeditions leave for different places in the region. The first expedition headed north and on December 6, 1534 founded the town of San Francisco de Quito.
When he was ready to leave for exploration in the current area of Guayaquil, Belalcázar left for Paita where he recruited people, food and supplies. At the end of August 1535, he set sail from Paita, entered the Gulf of Guayaquil, disembarked temporarily on Puná Island and then continued his journey up the waters of the Guayas River, in search of the Andean slopes that allowed passage to Quito. By October or November, by virtue of the act of foundation of Santiago de Quito, whose documents he carried, he disembarked near an indigenous seat called "Guayaquile."[26]Due to the attacks and the abandonment of Zaera,[28] again Francisco Pizarro ordered the relocation and reconstruction of Santiago, for this the mission was entrusted to Captain Francisco de Orellana, who was in the city of Puerto Viejo exercising the position of governor. Orellana arrived immediately to the region of Santiago to try to pacify it and, once again, to relocate it, this time in the vicinity of the sector known as "La Culata"[29] However, Orellana left again towards Puerto Viejo, and from there he would begin his trip towards Lima, leaving the title of mayor to Juan Porcel.
