The GM OBB factory is an Ecuadorian automotive assembly plant, based in the Metropolitan District in the city of Quito. It is currently the largest automotive assembly and production plant in Ecuador and its facilities carry out engineering, welding, painting, assembly and quality control processes, all of which are directly supervised by General Motors.
The assembly process uses a large number of components developed by domestic auto parts suppliers and CKD (Complete knock down) or simple non-subassembled components from different countries such as South Korea, China, Japan and Thailand. Currently, 40% of the vehicles marketed through the Chevrolet Dealer Network in Ecuador are locally assembled, and although there is a high percentage exported, it is not significant in neighboring countries, since in some of them there are already products that are produced and marketed without parts of foreign origin, different from the Ecuadorian case, where a high percentage of the CKD material is imported, even from neighboring countries.
